This is a song that pretty much lays out the whole situation; she's not interested. I am way too invested in the color of her eyes and the way she speaks to me. She wishes she felt the same, but she doesn't. So I go write songs about it and hope they'll be cathartic. - Jack

Like a great many of our songs, “If Only I Did” came to be in two separate pieces: Jack’s lyrics and melody, and my chord progressions and rhythms. When I showed Jack my instrumental, they had some sort of epiphany that led them to sing their lyrics over my instrumental, and it worked. Perfectly. And this song that we affectionately call “IOID [ee-oh-id]” was born. - Khue
